Recommendations for maximum size of content databases

Do you have recommendations on the sizing of content databases with regards to easy/fast backup/restore.

We have a few wss v2 content databases that are over 50GB & have been painful to migrate to wss v3 using the db-detach-attach method (this is the only method that works for our environment).

For MOSS we are looking at implementing 50GB as the maximum size for content databases but allowing more than one content database per site collection if necessary.  First concern that comes to mind then though is how to restore single document libraries (or files) using the out-of-the-box tools when there are two content databases....

    Cheers
    Andy

    Hi Andy,

There are a number of factors that play into the sizing of content database.  Joel Oleson wrote an article about this topic.  I hope this will help.
