Issue After WSS 2.0 to 3.0 Upgrade

I have a friend who recently ran into this issue and I have not had much time to troubleshoot after quickly trying to replicate.  I figured I would throw the question out to the forum to see if anyone had come across this:

They have a site with a few different document libraries on it.

     - documents

     - presentations

     - pricing

     - announcements (list)

Each of these has a common look-up column called Vendor.  It looks up to a list that strictly lists vendors. For each document library / list, I create a separate View for each vendor.

Then I create a Web Part Page attached to one of the document libraries (documents) for each Vendor.  On that web part page I place parts from each of the document libraries or list above.  For each, I apply only the views that coincide with the title of the page.  So a Web Part Page might be called "ABC Company", and the web parts for these various lists that are placed on that page have the "ABC Company" view applied.

    The problem is....

In 2.0, when I would use the search box on a given page, rather than get a search results screen... the contents of that page would just be reduced so that I would only see items that matched the search.  This was perfect because the items would all stay within their various regions on the page (familiar).

After upgrading to 3.0, when I use the search on the page...For the pages that existed in 2.0, the screen blinks (refreshes) and at the bottom of each web part it says "It may take several minutes for recent items to appear in the search results.".  However there is no difference in number of items.  No matter what I use in the search, it's not filtering the results.  My search box does disappear from the screen which is also what happened in 2.0.  So it appears that it's "trying" to have the same functionality as it used to, but unsuccessfully.

For the pages created in 3.0, I get a search results page.  This wouldn't be so bad, though I prefer the 2.0 behavior.  However the search results are for the entire Site.  My only choice in the search drop down is "This Site...".  I guess what is "missing" is a "This Page" option.
